This year marks the centenary of the birth of Olivier Messiaen, and the Festival is celebrating with various activities involving birds in music: the installation of a soundscape by the artist Oswaldo Marià, an open rehearsal, a guided walking tour, on-site exhibition, talks with the artists, meals in rustic surroundings, and an evening concert with projections of the winning entries in the photo contest. In the afternoon 4 to 5:30 P.M.: Walking tour (easy grade) hosted by the Société d’ornithologie de Lanaudière, down the wooded path along the Assomption River behind the Amphitheatre. (Departure point is in front of the Amphitheatre box office.) 4:30 to 6 P.M.: Open rehearsal in which the bird songs Olivier Messiaen used in his Oiseaux exotiques will be identified and discussed. 5:30 to 7:30 P.M.: Exhibition of birds of prey – side court of the Amphitheatre. FREE : All these activities are offered free to those holding tickets for the evening concert. The Amphitheatre gates open a 4:15 p.m. for the commented rehearsal. For the walking tour, ask for your free pass (mandatory) at the Amphitheatre box office. (duration 30 minutes) The installation Something Going on Above My Head is a soundscape composed by Columbian artist Oswaldo Macià consisting of songs of 2,000 birds from Africa, Europe, America and the Far East.
