Operatic and choral
works have given rise to many inspiring works
dealing with the fight against tyranny and the
demand for independence. On this evening’s
program, great heroines and choirs sing in
praise of freedom to music by Bellini, Verdi,
Sibelius and Jacques Hétu.
The work of Jacques Hétu, who passed away last
February, holds a significant place in the history
of music in Quebec as well as in that of the
Festival, which has performed a number of his
scores over the years. At the Amphitheatre, his
final composition, the Fifth Symphony for chorus
and orchestra, will receive its first performance
in Quebec.

VERDI          La forza del destino : ouverture
                    Nabucco : « Va pensiero, sull’ali dorate »
                   Aida : « Ritorna vincitor ! »
                   Il trovatore : « Vedi ! Le fosche »

BELLINI       Norma : « Casta diva »

SIBELIUS    Finlandia, op. 26 (version avec choeurs)

HÉTU         Symphonie no 5, pour choeur et orchestre
