Vision of Paradise

Saturday August 1st   |   8 pm
Amphithéâtre Fernand‑Lindsay

In the tragically short life of Robert Schumann, peerless icon of nascent German Romanticism, there is one grand-scale work that reveals him as the young composer, admired by Wagner, who would go on to achieve world renown: his secular oratorio Paradise and the Peri. The composition is a treasure-trove of expressive ecstasy, somewhere between Eastern inspiration, fantasy and enchantment. After 14 years as Music Director of the OSM, Kent Nagano takes his final bow in this last appearance at the Festival.
